TM Benidorm Debuts with a Fresh Identity and Ambitious Plans
Handball Benidorm has unveiled its new name, TM Benidorm, in a ceremony at Palau d’Esports L’Illa in Benidorm. The 2022-23 season marks a renewed project driven by collaboration among six organizations. The goal is to leverage this new partnership to enjoy the sport while competing in a continental arena.
The club will enter its ninth straight season in Asobal under the guidance of Fernando Latorre from Alicante, who has previously steered Benidorm to its strongest historical placements and elite scoring marks in recent seasons.
TM Benidorm aligns with the TM Group, bringing fresh financial support and new sponsorship aimed at enhancing the roster depth. The strategy involves six strategic signings, most of them players with international experience, to strengthen the squad across all positions.
The arrivals include goalkeeper Samuel Ibáñez, Argentine Ramiro Martínez, Serbian Mladen Sotic, Bosnian-Croatian pivot Dragan Soljic, Lithuanian Rolandas Bernatonis, and Portuguese Ruben Santos. Returning to the lineup are goalkeeper Roberto Rodríguez, wingers Ivan Nikcevic and Iván Rodríguez, centers Iker Serrano and Pepe Oliver, and a frontline core comprised of Colo Vainstein, Jules Lignieres, James Parker, Carlos Grau, and Eduardo Calle.
TM Benidorm Real Estate Group will sponsor the team and help define its strategic direction for the season, strengthening the club’s professional structure and long-term ambitions. Sources indicate that the sponsorship is set to influence both on-court performance and off-court operations, providing a stable foundation for growth.
Santi Barceló, Juancar Sempere, Dani Lara, and several promising reserve players will join the main squad for pre-season workouts, contributing to a broader talent pool and competition for places on the roster. Before the first training session, the club welcomed the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and club president Javier Abinzanoa, who offered brief remarks to coaches and players about the season ahead.
As the team approaches competition, the plan is for Latorre’s squad to begin with intensive double training blocks in the initial days of pre-season. It is noted that Samuel Ibáñez, who will be arriving a few days later, expects to join once his schedule allows, underscoring the club’s commitment to assembling a cohesive and competitive unit.
