Spartak Moscow and CSKA share 2-2 draw after tense derby

In the aftermath of the 11th round of the Russian Premier League, former Russian star Alexander Mostovoy weighed in on the clash between Spartak Moscow and CSKA. He noted that the army team seemed to enjoy a better position for much of the match, a perspective echoed by Sports Express in its coverage.

According to Mostovoy, CSKA deserved to take all three points. He said Spartak were fortunate to level late in the game, stressing that CSKA held the upper hand for most of the hour and a half. Yet Spartak managed to snatch a draw in the closing minutes, a result he described as a release for the visitors rather than a complete reversal of the balance of play.

The encounter unfolded at the Otkritie Bank Arena in Moscow and finished 2-2. Milan Gaich delivered a brace, providing Spartak with a strong attacking outlet, while Quincy Promes and former CSKA midfielder Jesus Medina contributed goals for Spartak in the dying moments to secure the draw. The late strikes changed the mood of the match, turning what could have been a CSKA win into a stubborn stalemate.

Following 11 rounds of the season, Spartak sit fifth in the table with 17 points, while CSKA occupy eighth place, also on 17 points. The two clubs remain in contention for higher spots as the campaign progresses, each aiming to maximize their results in the upcoming fixtures.

There was a brief and pointed message from CSKA to Spartak after the final whistle, signaling a tense tone between the two clubs as the league moves forward.
