The SKA hockey club recently set a global indoor attendance record, a milestone reported by the club’s press service. The surge in spectators underscored the growing popularity of the sport and the club’s ability to attract audiences to major events.
The record was verified during a match against St. Petersburg on February 11, hosted at the SKA Arena. It was noted that in the opening game of the St. Petersburg side, the opponent was Sochi. During the third period, official figures showed that 21,481 tickets were purchased for the contest.
In a summary of the day’s attendance, the club announced that an additional 2,264 people were present at SKA Arena. This group included guests associated with SKA and Sochi, accredited for the game, along with players’ families and relatives, volunteers, and match officials. When combined, the attendance for the SKA-Sochi game reached an impressive total of 23,745 spectators.
The club noted that accrediting individuals for events is a standard practice in professional sports worldwide. SKA also mentioned that similar attendance records are routinely maintained for high-profile matches in other leagues, including the Russian Premier League and national cup competitions, reflecting a broader trend in event management and audience engagement.
On the ice, SKA overwhelmed Sochi with an 8-1 victory. Following this win, St. Petersburg secured the top spot in the Western Conference standings, accumulating 87 points. Looking ahead, SKA is scheduled to host Lada in its next home game, a matchup fans are eagerly awaiting.
In other recent hockey news, Kaprizov contributed significantly to Minnesota’s victory by delivering two points, helping the team edge Vegas in a tight contest.
