Croatian defender Silvie Begich has returned to Russia and signed a contract with Ural. This development has been reported by the club’s own communications channels. The team is led by manager Viktor Goncharenko, and after eight rounds Ural sits at the bottom of the table with a single point to show for their efforts.
Begich’s move follows his departure from Rubin in the previous season, after which he struggled to secure a new club. In the 2021/2022 season he appeared in 23 matches for Rubin and Krylya Sovetov, contributing one goal during that spell.
Earlier this year, the Croat made the decision to leave Russia, driven in part by his father’s concerns about the conflict in Ukraine and his wish for Begich not to continue playing for a Russian club during that period.
It is also notable that Rubin faced significant squad turnover in the spring, with six foreign players terminating or suspending their contracts with the club. By season’s end, Kazan faced relegation threats and ultimately dropped to the First Division after finishing near the bottom of the table.
On June 21, FIFA announced a temporary allowance for foreign players and coaches to suspend their contracts with Russian clubs until June 30, 2023, a policy that had previously been extended to June 30, 2022. This broader context shaped the movements of players like Begich during that window.
Meanwhile, former Dynamo newcomer Roberto Fernandez signaled his preference toward Russia, a note that adds another layer to the ongoing reshuffling within Russian football circles.
