The Moroccan international midfielder departs Sevilla and commits to a three-season spell with Neymar’s new club, with a transfer fee near twenty million euros.
Yassine Bono is no longer a Sevilla goalkeeper, as the club confirmed on Thursday, August 17, 2023, the move of the Moroccan stopper to Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, the same club that had announced Neymar’s arrival a few hours earlier.

Bono’s contract with Al-Hilal covers three years and brings in almost €20 million for Sevilla. The former Girona player will also share the dressing room with world-renowned teammates such as Rúben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly, Malcom, and Milinković-Savić.
Seville official statement
“Bono leaves Sevilla FC after making 142 competitive appearances for the Nervionense shirt, winning two UEFA Europa Leagues, earning a Zamora Trophy, recording 58 clean sheets and finishing third in The Best world goalkeeper rankings. He also added a goal to his resume in the 20/21 season, the one that earned a draw at Valladolid. The Moroccan, who had joined from Girona FC late in the 19/20 market, began as a substitute for Tomas Vaclík and bid farewell to Nervión. His debut came on October 3 of that year in the Europa League at the Sánchez-Pizjuán against APOEL. His Liga debut followed in Getafe in February after the Czech keeper suffered an injury that kept him out.”

His decisive return to action followed the birth return period, stepping back into the spotlight after Vaclík’s latest injury limited him to a secondary role. Bono seized the gloves and did not let go, featuring in the final stretch of the Europa League in Germany, standing out with a crucial save against Raúl Jiménez in the quarterfinals and delivering a heroic display in the semifinals against Manchester United. Those performances helped Sevilla reach the final, where Bono again played a key part against Inter Milan. This sequence sealed Sevilla’s option to purchase Bono in Girona’s favor, bringing him firmly into the squad by the summer of 2020.
The 20/21 campaign saw Bono participate in 33 league games and 45 across all competitions, counting Champions League and Copa del Rey appearances. The 21/22 season saw him remain a regular despite Dmitrovic’s challenge, except for a January trip to the Africa Cup of Nations. That same year, he marked his 100th official appearance for Sevilla in a clash with Levante UD, a game remembered for setting a club record of 50% clean sheets under his custody in the 21st century. The season also culminated with Sevilla earning their first Zamora Trophy in history, recognizing the lowest goals-per-match ratio in Spain, as Bono posted 24 goals conceded in 31 games with a 0.77 goals-per-game average.
The 2023 calendar year found Bono nominated for The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and finishing third behind Emiliano Martínez and Thibaut Courtois, thanks to another outstanding campaign. In 2022/23 Bono played 36 matches across La Liga, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and the Europa League, delivering defining performances against Manchester United, Juventus, and Roma, including the decisive shootout save that helped secure Sevilla’s Europa League crown. His last appearance for the club came against Manchester City in the European Super Cup final, marking the end of his Sevilla chapter.
Sevilla FC plans a formal farewell ceremony in the near future and extends gratitude to Bono for his service and achievements with the club, wishing him luck as he embarks on this new chapter.
