Sergei Yelevich, a respected figure in Russian basketball, commented on the incident in central Moscow that led to the injury and hospitalization of CSKA player Alexei Shved. The regional press, including Moscow region outlets, reported on the event.
Yelevich stated that he knows Alexei and his family well. He expressed his belief that Shved was not intoxicated on the evening of the incident. In central Moscow, someone who knows who Shved is was injured, and Yelevich called the event real banditry. He added that he hopes the police will conduct a thorough investigation.
Reports indicate that on May 1, Shved, accompanied by his wife and friends, dined at a restaurant in central Moscow. After leaving the establishment, a dispute arose between Shved and the surrounding group. He was attacked on the sidewalk by several individuals, and the blow caused him to fall, with blood visible from his ear.
Restaurant staff assisted Shved at once. Following the assault, medical personnel transported him to a hospital. Witnesses noted that Shved was unconscious for about twenty minutes after the attack. Police detained two suspects in connection with the assault on the athlete.
CSKA issued an update stating that Shved sustained serious injuries and would be unable to play for the foreseeable future, pending a full medical evaluation.
