With five seconds left in the match, the point came when Dutch center Pipy Wolfs seized the rebound after Danila So Delgado’s shot, allowing AtticGo Balonmano Elche to add a crucial score against the heavy favorite Super Amara Bera Bera. Bera Bera keeps first place in the Guerreras-Iberdrola League, while the Franjiverdes shift to the top of the standings after Costa del Sol Málaga’s defeat at Caja Rural Aula Valladolid. The San Sebastián squad could have claimed first if they had beaten Elche, but the game finished in a draw and left them in third.

The game unfolded as anticipated: a tightly contested affair. The Basque side began stronger and forged a four-goal lead by the 15th minute (10-6). Yet Joaquín Rocamora’s squad refused to buckle, responding in the latter stages of the first half to level the score at 16-16 at the break.

AtticGo Elche, stout in defense and sharp in offense against Bera Bera’s open defense, climbed back into contention. The Franjiverdes held a narrow advantage, up to three goals, with a chance to push ahead by four. The San Sebastian players then steadied their nerve, denying the Elche attack and levelling the match late on, even taking a brief lead in the final moments (27-26).

But Rocamora’s students did not surrender. The Oriolano coach called a timeout to organize a decisive final move. AtticGo’s top scorer Danila So Delgado launched the final attempt, missed the goal, and Pipy Wolfs, praised for his quick thinking, secured the rebound to knot the score at 27 with five seconds left. The clock stopped. For AtticGo Elche, that possession tasted like victory, a sting for Bera Bera.

The Franjiverdes now pause the league for a week to prepare for the first leg of the EHF European Cup quarter-final, scheduled for Sunday, February 18, at noon, in the Esperanza Lag pavilion in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Rocamora’s side remains active on three fronts this season—league, cup, and Europe—and continues to chase the title across all competitions.
