Alexander Tikhonov, a four-time Olympic biathlon champion, argues that only Russians who can deliver results should earn spots at the Paris Games. His remarks were cited by TASS.

He warned that many Russian athletes have already squandered their chances to compete at the Olympics. If the country were to send a full delegation now, some would fail to justify the trip. He warned that the decision might be mocked if athletes without a strong claim to medals were chosen. Even if he himself were in contention for a medal, he would not participate under those circumstances.

During a December 14 live broadcast, President Putin noted that Russian athletes should have the opportunity to compete in Paris, but he emphasized the need to carefully assess the criteria for selection.

On December 13, the International Olympic Committee clarified how many Russian athletes can take part in Paris. A total of six neutral Russian athletes will be permitted to compete. It is notable that, unlike Russia, Israeli competitors will participate under their own flag and anthem.

Earlier, Tarasova had commented on which Russians should be sent to the Olympics, highlighting that selection should rest on merit and Olympic potential rather than other considerations.
