The president of the Russian Premier League (RPL), Alexander Alaev, emphasized that while he does not fear the trend of foreign players departing Russia, allowing such patterns to become common would be problematic. He spoke on the matter as reported by Match TV.

Following the start of the RPL season, Norwegian midfielder Matthias Normann, who was with Rostov, and Lokomotiv forward Wilson Isidor, who had spent time on loan at Dynamo, left Russia.

Alaev commented, “The situation is serious. A player signs a valid contract and fulfills its terms. Departing unilaterally is unprofessional. We will defend our interests together with Lokomotiv, Dynamo, and Rostov. Any player under contract must honor it.”

As the transfer window in Europe neared its close on September 3, a decision by a player to exit Russia without Lokomotiv’s approval led him to France, where he underwent independent evaluation with an unnamed club. The club did not receive a satisfactory offer from the French side and therefore requested the player’s return, which did not occur.

Isidor joined Lokomotiv from Monaco in the 2021/22 campaign. In the current RPL season, he has appeared in four matches and scored one goal. His Lokomotiv contract runs through the summer of 2026. Previously, he played for French clubs Bastia-Borgo and Laval.

In a related statement, Lokomotiv reiterated its position on retaining the player while acknowledging the contemporary market realities affecting transfers and contract commitments.
