Riccelli Transfer to CSKA Moscow: Negotiations Concluded Amid Political Sanctions

The manager of Famalicão, Alexis Malavolta, stated that talks surrounding Riccelli’s potential move to CSKA Moscow have reached a close, as reported by Sports24. The Portuguese club, however, did not approve the sale, and the discussions have now concluded. Malavolta emphasized that the impasse was not rooted in money, but in political factors and the sanctions currently affecting CSKA Moscow. He noted that these elements ultimately blocked the transfer from going through, despite the efforts of all parties involved.

Earlier, on January 17, the Portuguese outlet O Jogo indicated that Riccelli was nearing a temporary loan to CSKA with an option to buy at a later date, signaling a potential pathway for the player to join the Russian side under a different arrangement than a straight sale. The report highlighted the flexibility of a loan move as a mechanism to reassess the fit between the player, the club, and the strategic plans of CSKA Moscow.

Riccelli, a 25-year-old Brazilian who serves as captain for Famalicão, has built a solid track record with the club. Across 137 appearances in all competitions, he has contributed six goals and one assist, showcasing leadership and versatility in defense. This season and previous campaigns have underscored his value as a defender capable of contributing in both phases of play and providing stability at the back for his team.

Meanwhile in the Russian Premier League, CSKA Moscow was positioned seventh with 28 points as the league entered its winter break. The campaign resumes with the 19th round, and the Army club is scheduled to host Orenburg in what promises to be a telling test of form and squad depth as they push to climb the table and reestablish momentum in the second half of the season.

Earlier comments from a CSKA player suggested openness to departures under certain financial terms, including a willingness to accept a pay cut if it facilitated a move away from the club. This stance reflects ongoing negotiations about squad composition and the strategic priorities of CSKA Moscow amid shifting circumstances in European football and the broader market for players from Portuguese leagues and Brazilian talents alike.
