The Friday night gathering marked the 27th edition of Tabarca Vela Diputación de Alicante, a standout owner’s dinner that drew a record crowd and a diverse fleet. Hosted at Santa Bárbara Castle, the event welcomed 70 boats from across Spain and Europe, turning the evening into a vibrant showcase of sailing culture and regional hospitality. The gathering offered a rich taste of Alicante gastronomy and provided a memorable backdrop for owners and crews to connect and celebrate the season.

The event benefited from the leadership and coordination of key municipal and sports figures who oversaw the evening’s program. TheTrade and Hospitality Consultant from the Alicante Town Hall, Lydia Lopez, chaired the festivities, while Miguel López, president of the sports institution, and race director Núria Sánchez oversaw the prize presentation. Their roles ensured a smooth and festive cadence for the evening, recognizing both competitive success and the event’s communal spirit.
During the 27th running of the regatta, several notable awards highlighted the coverage and storytelling surrounding Tabarca Vela. The Local Press award went to Alicante Plaza, the digital newspaper known for its strong regional reporting. National Press recognition was awarded to veteran journalist Joseph Margalef, whose career spans multiple Olympic Games and extends across major outlets including Agencia EFE and Diario AS. The Photography Special Award honored marine photographer Alfred Farragean, whose work has become synonymous with the event and with the broader Mirabaud Yacht Race Image Award.
