Public Safety Operation: Police Intervene in Seville Fans Incident Ahead of Osasuna–Sevilla Match

Two Sevilla football fans were arrested by the Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police in Navarra following a report of potential criminal activity on a Saturday night. The suspects were detained on suspicion of possessing explosive, flammable, or incendiary devices. Their identities were recorded as VI, and the arrest occurred after officers from the Police Response unit identified a vehicle carrying pyrotechnic materials, improvised explosive devices, and other components used to assemble a spray of fireworks designed to produce a powerful blast capable of causing serious injuries. This discovery prompted immediate action to preserve public safety and prevent harm to bystanders.

The arrest took place near Avenida Zaragoza, during clashes between organized supporters of Osasuna and Sevilla. Police described the confrontation as a street fight that involved members of radical groups known as Indar Gorri and Biris Norte. The National Police noted that the incident began early in the morning and was quickly brought under control, with early reports indicating Sevilla supporters associated with a radical faction were planning to travel to Pamplona for the match.

Law enforcement also recovered two additional explosive devices near Zaragoza Boulevard, one of which had already detonated, sharing characteristics with the device carried by the detainees. The Pamplona Information Brigade, maintaining close coordination with the Seville Brigade and working alongside the Sports Coordinators and the VI Intervention Unit, acted swiftly as events unfolded between the rival groups, which numbered around 70 individuals from Seville.

During the search of the registered vehicles, large wooden sticks and additional pyrotechnic materials were found in one vehicle, while other cars checked were rented and subsequently seized. Authorities believe the vehicle served as a service and material distribution vehicle for the Seville fan group, though all holders remain liable under the Citizens Security Law and the Sports Law as applicable. After order was restored, and a sufficient number of Sevilla supporters had been identified, the group was escorted from Pamplona. In line with the Sports Code, the Police Response Unit continued to monitor the situation to prevent any escalation, ensuring the spectators could follow the football match in Sadar without incident.

The Pamplona Municipal Police contributed by blocking traffic on routes affected by the operation to support public order units. To guarantee that the Osasuna versus Sevilla match would be remembered as a true sports event, National Police teams maintained a visible presence until the game’s conclusion. The cooperation among the various National Police units and the Supreme Police Directorate was praised for preventing serious clashes and ensuring that fans from both sides, including families and children, could enjoy the sport in a safe environment for those 90 minutes and beyond.
