Sevilla celebrated in style as Jose Luis Mendilibar’s squad clinched the 2022-23 Europa League title against Jose Mourinho’s Roma. The win confirmed Seville’s status as the tournament’s top achiever, securing the crown tonight in a final that highlighted their enduring supremacy in European football.
THE SUMMARY AND GOALS OF THE FINAL, HERE
Sevilla advanced to the Europa League final for a repeat performance in which they faced Roma at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. The Spaniards had eliminated Juventus in the semi final route, a path that kept their hopes alive of protecting the title in Hungary. Roma, the last obstacle, had earlier knocked out Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso in the semi finals, setting the stage for a dramatic decider.
Sevilla reached the Europa League after finishing third in Group G of the Champions League. In the knockout rounds they defeated PSV Eindhoven in the preliminary round with a 3-2 aggregate, Fenerbahce in the round of 16 with a 2-1 aggregate, and Manchester United with a 5-2 aggregate, before overcoming Juventus on a 3-2 aggregate in the semifinal.
