Palma Futsal Celebrates World Title as City Embraces Victory
Palma Futsal arrived on the island with full honors, greeted by a scene of triumph and public pride. The Intercontinental Cup champions extended an invitation to the highest local authorities, presenting the world’s best futsal team title to the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, to the Consell de Mallorca president Llorenç Galmés, and to Palma’s mayor, Jaime Martínez. Prohens herself expressed her enthusiasm for the team, meeting with Antonio Vadillo, the club manager, and confirming her status as a devoted supporter of the squad. A reported 3,300 fans subscribed to the club, donning jerseys to honor the victory achieved in Foz do Iguaçu, where the team defeated the Libertadores de América champion Cascavel Futsal in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw. José Tirado, the Pistachio Green team’s general manager, coordinated a cordial gathering with the island’s leading representatives, marking an unusually buoyant moment for the club and its supporters.
From Son Sant Joan, Palma Futsal moved through the city center aboard a convertible bus to present the trophy to residents of Ciutat. An official event began at noon in the Palau d’Esports in Son Moix to commemorate the world championship. The occasion also confirmed Marga Prohens’s ongoing involvement, joined by Llorenç Galmés and Jaime Martínez, reinforcing the partnership between the club and the city’s leadership.
Three leaders prepared speeches in front of staff, residents, and fans who chose to participate in the intimate gathering at the arena. The moment unfolded as Cort deputy mayor Javi Bonet accompanied Palma Futsal during the Ginásio Costa Cavalcante visit, representing the Brazilian city as a corporate ally in this important sports milestone for Palma. José Tirado, coach Antonio Vadillo, and captain Carlos Barrón joined in to personally thank the fans for their unwavering support, underscoring the strong connection between the team and its supporters.
The intention was to keep the activity concise, lasting no more than an hour. The decision reflected the players’ recent long journey from Brazil and the fatigue that comes with such a demanding schedule, especially after the upcoming league match against Ribera Navarra scheduled for Sunday at Son Moix. The celebration, however, remained a vivid testament to the team’s resilience and the community’s appreciation, a moment that highlighted how sport can unite a city after a global triumph.
