Ovechkin’s Dynamo Connection: Scoring, Records, and Renewed Contact

Dynamo Moscow’s general director Alexey Sopin spoke about a recent conversation with Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin, noting that the veteran forward still maintains strong ties with the Dynamo club.

During a break in the NHL season, Ovechkin reportedly reached out while Sasha was in Dubai. Dynamo was preparing for a home game against Avtomobilist when the call came in, about half an hour before Ovechkin would take the ice. The exchange happened on speaker in the trainer’s room, with Dynamo’s coaching staff offering guidance—advice that seemed to light a spark. Almost immediately, Ovechkin began to find his scoring touch again and accumulated points in the game, much to the delight of fans.

Ovechkin is a Dynamo alumnus who helped bring home the Russian Championship and the Gagarin Cup, cementing his place in the club’s storied history.

In the current season, the 38-year-old has appeared in 55 games, registering 16 goals and 27 assists. He continues to chase the all-time mark held by Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals in his NHL career, with Ovechkin standing at 838 goals and closing the gap to 56.

There was a previous season when the NHL reportedly trimmed one of Ovechkin’s assists, a reminder that even a legend’s record can be subject to change or debate.
