Oksana Domnina and Roman Kostomarov’s Ice Performance and Medical Updates
Oksana Domnina, the spouse of Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov, spoke about the joy of sharing the ice with her husband for the first time as a duo. She described the moment as a clear demonstration of their mutual decision to return to skating, noting the entire family was present and feeling the happiness of the occasion. The remarks came through a report by DEA News, reflecting the couple’s perspective on reuniting on the ice.
On August 22, Kostomarov joined Ilya Averbukh and his wife Oksana during the Love Letters ice show in Sochi. The event featured a team effort in which the female partner opened with an impressive performance, and in the middle of the routine Kostomarov stepped onto the ice to join her. The performance concluded with a long, heartfelt hug between the two, marking a memorable debut moment for the pair.
Earlier, in January 2022, Kostomarov faced a serious health challenge after several New Year performances at an open-air show. He was hospitalized and placed in intensive care due to pneumonia, and his condition required artificial lung ventilation. Reports described his state as extremely serious at that time.
Subsequently, Kostomarov was moved to a hospital in Kommunarka, where he underwent resuscitation and was supported with ECMO. During the course of treatment, both of his feet and hands were amputated as part of the medical response to his condition. The public updates about his health were provided by medical teams and representatives close to the athlete, highlighting the severity of the situation and the ongoing efforts to stabilize him.
Following a performance at the Averbukh ice show, Kostomarov spoke about his experiences and the journey through recovery, offering reflections on the challenges and the support around him. The narrative from those close to the athlete emphasizes resilience and perseverance in the face of significant medical hurdles.
Throughout these events, the focus remained on the bond between Kostomarov and Domnina, the impact of their shared goals, and the responses of their supporters. The communications from the involved parties aimed to convey a sense of continuity, hope, and the drive to resume their careers on the ice, despite the obstacles encountered along the way.
