Neymar explains why La Liga powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain fell short of Europe’s top prize, offering his take on the team’s failed Champions League campaigns.

  • PSG has yet to lift the European Cup
  • The famed attacking trio of Mbappé, Messi, and Neymar did not seal a continental crown during their time together at the Parc des Princes
  • Neymar believes the trio did not quite click in that pursuit

WHAT HAPPENED? It promised to be one of the sharpest attacking lines in world football. A lineup featuring three world-class forwards could have fractured any defensive plan. Yet over two seasons in Paris they could not reach the Champions League summit, bowing out in the round of 16 on both occasions, first to Real Madrid and then to Bayern Munich. The disappointing domestic and continental run left fans frustrated, and Neymar addressed these frustrations in a candid discussion.

WHAT WAS SAID: “We had a very strong team. Messi, Mbappé and I are three players who are among the best in the world. We knew it, but sometimes we don’t fit together as a unit,” he told YouTuber Casimiro Miguel in a wide-ranging interview.

He added that the team’s goal was to win everything, even as he conceded that football doesn’t always align with expectations or fairness on the grand stage.

THE FULL PICTURE: Even though Neymar remains under contract until 2027, chatter persists about a possible move away from PSG, with interest from top leagues in England and in the Middle East. Nevertheless, Neymar expressed a clear desire to keep playing in the French capital following a successful ankle rehabilitation and a return to form. “I have a contract. No one has told me otherwise so far. I want to recover well. Winning is always my objective, but playing well again comes first,” he stated.

COMING UP? Neymar is expected to feature in PSG’s first friendly of the upcoming period against Le Havre, with a return date framed as a test of his fitness and form.
