Las Vegas to Host the Final Round of the Concacaf Nations League

The Confederation confirms that the final stage of the Nations League will be held in Las Vegas during the summer. This mirrors the model seen in other major confederations where regional tournaments establish a clear pathway to a grand final, and in this case the region follows the same logic with its own League of Nations style framework at the national team level.

Following a disrupted inaugural edition due to the global pandemic and FIFA calendar considerations, the competition returned in a World Cup year. The previous edition crowned the United States as champion, and the tournament is positioned to again take place in the middle of a World Cup cycle, providing a platform for regional teams to compete while aligning with the broader international schedule.

HOW THE NATIONS LEAGUE WORKS

Each participant is placed according to on-field performance and FIFA rankings into three divisions. The position within these divisions is determined by a provisional schedule of matches spread across four dates.

The format rewards teams with opportunities to reach the Gold Cup through group-stage performance. The top two teams in League A and the top team in League B secure a spot in the 17th edition of the Gold Cup, while additional teams enter through the Gold Cup qualifying rounds, including the third-place finisher in League A, the runners-up in League B, and the winners of League C.

GOLD CUP IMPLICATIONS

The Gold Cup path remains expansive. The 2021 Gold Cup featured teams that came through the Nations League, and the next edition is planned for 2023. This structure is intended to echo a broader regional rhythm where teams compete against similarly ranked rivals on established FIFA dates, providing meaningful competitive opportunities without excessive travel strains.

GOLDEN CUP OUTLOOK

The two flagship tournaments operate in tandem, with the Gold Cup fostering regional rivalry and the Nations League offering a structured pathway to qualification. The Nations League framework has already influenced regional competition dynamics and continues to shape how teams prepare for global events.
