Alexander Mostovoy, a former star of the Russian national team, has publicly spoken about Nikolai Pisarev, noting that Pisarev currently serves as head coach of Krasnodar-2. The disclosure comes as part of discussions circulating within Russian football circles.
According to Mostovoy, Pisarev reached Krasnodar-2 largely through a network of friendships and professional connections. He recalled that some colleagues doubted the move at first, yet time showed the reality of the situation. “Many people today are focused on the paycheck, rather than the expectations tied to a coaching role”, Mostovoy remarked, reflecting on the perspectives he has observed within the coaching community.
In a separate development, the Russian Football Union confirmed in early June that Mostovoy had submitted an application to pursue a coaching license at its academy, entering the UEFA category. The process initially appeared to miss a procedural deadline for the required training survey, but the academy chose to add him to the official roster and proceed with the evaluation, allowing him to continue pursuing professional coaching qualifications.
Mostovoy is widely remembered in Russia for his standout performances with Spartak Moscow. Much of his playing career, however, carried him abroad, where he appeared for prominent clubs including Benfica in Portugal, Strasbourg in France, and Celta Vigo in Spain. His international experiences contributed to a diverse career that spanned multiple leagues and styles of play.
In recent discussions, Mostovoy also referenced criticisms aimed at Spartak’s coaching staff, mentioning Guillermo Abascal as the Spartak coach and noting Abascal’s victory over Paris Nizhny Novgorod in the Russian Cup group stage. The comments reflect ongoing debates about coaching leadership and team strategies within Russian football, as observers weigh the impact of leadership changes on club performance.
