The Phoca team heads out to claim a spot in the semi finals of the traditional cup as they face the Ligue 2 side at the Vélodrome.
Olympique de Marseille and Annecy FC clash this Wednesday at the Orange Velodrome to decide which club advances to the French Cup semi finals. The competition brings together amateur clubs and professional outfits from across the country, and Nantes currently hold the title after defeating Nice Saint-Denis to secure a fourth triumph.
The Phocian side, boasting ten trophies in its cabinet, reached the quarterfinals in the 1988-89 season, later knocking out Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in another memorable run thanks to a standout display from Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean forward opened the scoring and set the tone for the victory, while Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi finished off the win against the Ligue 1 leaders, with Sergio Ramos also contributing to the buildup.
Meanwhile, the Ligue 2 team earned their place in this round by beating Paris FC on penalties (5-6). Their path before that included a 1-6 victory over ES Villerupt-Thil and a win against Association Sportive Municipale de la Champion National 2.
It’s worth recalling that in the last edition, the 105th edition, the side now led by Croatian coach Igor Tudor reached the quarterfinals but fell as runners-up with a 4-1 defeat at Allianz Riviera.
