Marcelino García Toral has taken the helm at Villarreal, stepping in after the departure of Pacheta. In his official introduction as the Yellow Submarine’s coach, the Asturian trainer expressed deep emotion about coming back to a club where he spent four seasons. On Monday, November 13, Villarreal CF confirmed that Marcelino García Toral would lead the team through the current season and extend his tenure through 2026, covering the remainder of this campaign and two additional seasons beyond it.

The squad, now under Marcelino’s leadership, conducted a double training session at the José Manuel Llaneza Sports City on Tuesday, November 14, signaling a preparing phase for the upcoming fixtures.

The presentation press conference occurred on Tuesday at 1:30 PM in the Estadio de la Cerámica press room, an event organized specifically for the media to hear from the new manager and his plans for the club.

This marks Marcelino García Toral’s second stint as Villarreal’s head coach, having previously steered the team from January 2013 to August 2016 in a period that left a lasting imprint on the club’s modern era.

Born in Gijón, the coach took charge of a Villarreal side that had just been promoted to the Spanish second tier. He not only achieved immediate promotion but also guided the team to European competition through consistent top finishes in La Liga. During his tenure, Villarreal reached the semi finals of the UEFA Europa League and the Copa del Rey, and earned a spot in European play by finishing fourth in La Liga in his final season with the club. In total, he oversaw 177 matches for Villarreal.

Throughout his coaching career, Marcelino has managed teams including CD Lealtad, Sporting de Gijón B, Sporting de Gijón, Recreativo de Huelva, Racing de Santander, Real Zaragoza, Sevilla, Valencia, Athletic Club, and Olympique de Marseille.
