FourFourTwo Edition published a widely discussed list detailing some of Liverpool’s most challenging transfer decisions. The headline pick was defender Paul Konchesky, valued at 4.2 million euros when Fulham acquired him in 2010. The list also highlights former Ukrainian striker Andrei Voronin as one of the club’s less successful signings.

Below is the compiled ranking of Liverpool’s historically most controversial transfers:

  1. Paul Konchesky
  2. Mario Balotelli
  3. Andy Carroll
  4. El Hadji Diouf
  5. Andrey Voronin
  6. Sean Dundee
  7. Fabio Borini
  8. Naby Keita
  9. Charlie Adam
  10. Alberto Aquilani.

Voronin joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2007 and spent two seasons with the club, making 27 appearances and scoring five goals. In 2010, he moved to Dynamo Moscow, where he featured in 80 matches and found the net 22 times for the blue-whites. He concluded his professional playing career with Dynamo Moscow before transitioning into coaching.

He later joined Sandro Schwarz’s coaching staff in October 2020. On March 1, 2022, Voronin left the club and Russia amid the escalating events in Ukraine.

In a separate, earlier interview, the former player acknowledged embarrassment while discussing the situation on Russian television, reflecting the complicated political and athletic landscape surrounding footballers with ties to different national teams.
