Forty-one years after Formula 1 last visited Las Vegas, the sport announced a return in 2023, setting up a midnight race on November 6. The track stretches 1,620 meters through a cityscape of hotels and casinos, featuring 14 bends, with a peak speed expected near 342 km/h and a total of 50 laps. The announcement came early that day from the highest level of motorsport.

With the Las Vegas Strip serving as a backdrop, the U.S. debut of F1 will join existing events in Miami and Austin, Texas, expanding Formula 1’s footprint across North America and drawing new crowds to a broader motor-sport audience.

For global fans, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will run for viewers in Europe during the early hours of Sunday, while audiences in Asia will see a Saturday morning session local time, followed by Sunday morning broadcasts in other regions.

“This is an extraordinary moment for F1 and a clear sign of the sport’s growth and appeal, now with a third race in the United States,” said Stefano Domenicali, the Italian F1 chief executive and president, in a formal statement. He added that Las Vegas, famed for its energy, hospitality, and the iconic Strip, is the perfect stage for Formula 1, often described as the entertainment capital of the world.

Steve Hill, president and chief executive of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), described the event as a historic moment that captures the history, energy, and momentum of Formula 1 culminating in an unforgettable Saturday night on the Las Vegas Strip.

He noted that fans will witness the elite drivers competing on a circuit that promises a new benchmark for excitement and spectacle. It is anticipated to become one of the sport’s most memorable modern venues, a bold statement of the series’ evolving presence in Las Vegas.

Formula 1 last hosted a race in Las Vegas in 1982, when the 75-lap season finale wrapped around the Caesar Palace layout. The victor that year was Italian Michele Alboreto driving a Tyrrell-Ford, securing his first triumph on this track. The return in 2023 marks a notable revival of a historic locale for the championship, underscoring the series’ ongoing expansion in North America and its appeal to fans across North America and beyond.
