new season, new look for how la liga is watched

The upcoming season begins this Friday and marks a turning point in how LaLiga is presented on television. The clubs reached an agreement at the end of December that splits the broadcast rights over the next five seasons between Dazn and Movistar, each paying a total of 990 million euros for their coverage.

These deals set up an audiovisual landscape with three main players. Movistar and Orange will offer all matches within their bundled packages, which include mobile, internet, and other services; Dazn will stream only half of the games.

offers

Across its regular services, Spanish telecoms also market football as part of bundled packages. A typical offer runs 69.90 euros per month for four months and then increases to 94.90 euros from the fifth month. Fans seeking leagues beyond LaLiga, such as England, Germany, Italy, and France, can add those packages by increasing the monthly bill to 79.65 euros for four months and 107.90 thereafter.

Orange presents a fiber and mobile bundle that includes football, cinema, and drama with a light minimum commitment. The price is 82.50 euros per month for four months, rising to 110 euros thereafter, with a 12‑month platform stay. A notable difference is that Orange will not offer foreign leagues beyond the Premier League.

Dazn offers five daily matches through its OTT service, but only three will be streamed. Dazn LaLiga costs 18.99 euros per month. For access to all content such as MotoGP, Formula 1, Euroleague, and the Premier League, subscribers can opt for the broader package. Dazn Total is 24.99 euros per month, or 19.99 euros per month with an annual plan paid monthly.

new storytellers

Beyond the platforms themselves, the season brings a notable change in on‑air talent. LaLiga will continue to provide operators with the full production entourage for each match, including narrators and commentators, while allowing customization of the broadcast. Dazn has chosen to assemble its own on‑air team, a move that surprised even the leadership. League president Tebas supported bringing in a team selected by the broadcasters.

Carlos Martínez remains the lead narrator, but Julio Maldonado, Mónica Marchante, Ricardo Sierra, Jorge Valdano, and Álvaro Benito will no longer voice the broadcasts. The commentator team will largely comprise former players serving as LaLiga ambassadors, with some new faces joining the mix.

Retired stars such as David Villa, Guti, Juanfran, Morientes, and Mendieta are expected to participate as part of the broadcast lineup. In Dazn’s coverage, longtime LaLiga voices like José Sanchís, Lluís Izquierdo, and Miguel Ángel Román will remain, and will be joined by Rubén Martín, Alba Oliveros, Julio Suárez, and Jordi Pons.

LaLiga announced that former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas will comment on major matches from the stadiums.

Another shift is the elimination of in‑stadium manager and sporting director interviews, a Movistar staple that LaLiga will not pursue immediately this season.

second and rods

The second tier of LaLiga coverage will be more varied. Movistar, Orange, and Telecable will present the full slate from day one with a September rollout, joined by Amazon Prime Video, Euskaltel, R, Virgin Telco, MásMóvil, Yoigo, and Guuk. Ten platforms will cover the second category, and unlike this year, will not broadcast any matches via DTT. All broadcasts will feature LaLiga’s chosen commentators and narrators.

Meanwhile, venues and broadcast partners will have access to the major football competitions, along with Formula 1, MotoGP, and Euroleague through an all‑inclusive offering. Movistar, Orange, Mediapro, Agile, and Avatel will coordinate access directly with LaLiga and will be able to arrange payments in installments based on activity, district, and capacity.
