The French star at 23 heads into his second finals run, aiming to add another milestone to an already remarkable career.
At the Qatar World Cup 2022, after nearly a month of relentless action with little rest, the tournament reached its long awaited finale on Sunday, December 18, in Lusail. Similar to the previous edition in Russia, France stands once more in the final lineup, seeking a second world title against Argentina, guided by their radiant star Kylian Mbappé.
Mbappé in World Cups: matches, goals and efficiency
Mbappé is determined to etch his name deeper into World Cup history. He debuted on the sport’s biggest stage in 2018 at just 19 and lifted the trophy in his first campaign with France. That performance elevated him from a European prodigy to a global icon, drawing comparisons to Pelé, who also won his first world title at his initial World Cup appearance.
In Russia, Mbappé contributed four goals. One came against Peru in the group stage, two against Argentina in the round of 16, and another in the final against Croatia.
In Qatar, still only 23, he shared the lead as top scorer of the tournament with his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi, each tallying five goals. Mbappé netted once against Australia, twice versus Denmark, and added two more in the round of 16 against Poland.
Across 12 World Cup matches, his scoring rate stands at an impressive 0.75 goals per game, a figure that underscores his impact in a competition known for its tough, limited opportunities.
