Kamila Valieva Doping Case: ISU Strips 2022 Olympic Gold and Medal Reassignments

Kamila Valieva, the Russian figure skater, drew 113 thousand comments on her first post after the news, with a growing following on social media, as reported by socialbites.ca.

On January 30, Valieva shared a video featuring a segment of her routine set to the music of Passmurny, concluding with the track Heart.

On January 30, 2024, the International Skating Union stripped Russia’s 2022 Olympic team gold after the Court of Arbitration for Sport found Valieva guilty of doping shortly before the decision, resulting in a four-year ban for the skater. The ruling led to a reshuffling of medals, with the gold going to the United States, silver to Japan, and the ISU awarding Russia a bronze medal.

The disqualification means Valieva loses a string of titles and honors earned since December 25, 2021. Among them are the Russian national champion title for 2022, the European champion title for 2022, the Olympic team champion title for 2022, the 2023 Russian jumping champion award, and the silver and bronze medals from the 2023 and 2024 Russian championships.

Previously, statements from the Russian Figure Skating Federation addressed Valieva’s case, clarifying the skater’s position and the federation’s stance on the events that unfolded.
