Lokomotiv Moscow’s general manager, Vladimir Leonchenko, confirmed that striker Wilson Izidor will move on to Zenit St. Petersburg. In explaining the winter transfer, he emphasized that the player had expressed a desire to depart the club, and the decision aligned with Izidor’s wishes as the transfer window opened. The report comes from Euro-Football.Ru.
Leonchenko explained that Lokomotiv received no competitive offers to consider during the summer. He contrasted Zenit’s approach with a deal that involved a paid loan and a mandatory purchase option, which, in his view, provided a clear framework for the move. Because of these terms and Izidor’s own preference to leave, the club opted to allow the transfer to proceed.
In terms of on-field contributions this season, Izidor has appeared in four Russian Premier League matches, recording one goal and delivering no assists in those appearances.
After seven rounds in the Russian Premier League, Zenit occupies second place with 14 points, while Lokomotiv sits sixth with 12 points. Izidor, who joined Lokomotiv after moving from Monaco earlier in his career, has been part of Russia’s top flight since 2022.
There has been public commentary about Zenit from another former club figure, with strong language comparing Zenit to thieves, a remark attributed to the wife of a former Spartak owner. This incident reflects the heightened tension that often surrounds transfers and club rivalries in Russian football.
