Intercity secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Alcoyano, a result that helped lift the Alicante outfit from a troubling run that stretched back to October. The win ended a winless spell that dated from last October 16, when they defeated Osasuna B 2-1. Founded in 2017 and coached by Gustavo Siviero, the club had endured its worst sequence in recent memory, tallying four draws and three losses that pushed it toward the danger zone. The win reintroduced a spark of optimism as Intercity eyed promotion to professional football at the season’s end.

Intercity vs Alcoyano: a turning point in the campaign

The match marked a return to form for Intercity, who had endured three consecutive goalless draws prior to breaking through against Alcoyano. The victory not only provided a much-needed points cushion but also enabled the Alicante bloc to climb out of relegation positions, even if only by a single point as the table stood. With two league games remaining in the year, confidence grew as the team prepared to close the year with renewed purpose.

Looking ahead, Intercity’s schedule included a league fixture scheduled for Saturday and a King’s Cup round against Mirandés on Tuesday, December 20, to be held at the Antonio Solana stadium. Coach Siviero opted to give several players a rest to recharge ahead of the final clash before the winter break, signaling a strategic approach to finish the year strong.

Salvador Martí: economic sustainability as a core objective

The club used the first day of the football team’s rest period to celebrate the Christmas season with Alicante media. Attendees included managers, technical committee members, and players from CF Intercity and related sports divisions such as Lucentum, CFI Intercity Femenino, CFI Alicante, Intercity Crevillent Futsal, Alicante Badminton Club, and ONCE Intercity Alicante. The gathering offered a relaxed setting for discussing the season and sharing reflections with local press.

During the informal session, the team’s representatives spoke about the year’s highlights and assessed 2022. They underscored their central role within the Intercity Group, stressing the objective of growing in the province with new sports disciplines. Martí stated that, after a year of notable achievements, the aim for 2023 would be promotions that ensure long-term sustainability for all sections of the group, not just the first team.

Intercity Group CEO Toni Gallego highlighted that 2022 had been prosperous for the entire group and expressed a desire to replicate that success in 2023, with sporting victories that would fuel ongoing growth. When asked about future aspirations, Gallego mentioned a preference for multiple promotions across disciplines, noting that eight sports are represented within the group and that achieving two promotions in several cases would be ideal for momentum and stability.
