Independiente Aims for a Victory in Avellaneda Against Instituto

El Rojo seeks a comeback victory in Avellaneda as it hosts Instituto at the Libertadores de América stadium.

Independent’s current form isn’t at its best, and the team hasn’t been able to capitalize on the early Binance Tournament 2023 win. Since that initial success, results have stalled and momentum has not returned, leaving fans hopeful for a positive turnaround.

The recent draw with Banfield, earned while holding a one-man advantage for most of the match, left supporters eager for an improvement. A tense atmosphere is anticipated in Avellaneda when the team welcomes Instituto this Sunday, March 5, starting at 5 p.m.

THE CALLED INDEPENDENT

Following the clash with the Drill, head coach Leandro Stillitano confirmed that Joaquin Laso will miss the upcoming game due to a suspension incurred in the final minutes. In defense, Edgar Elizabeth is also sidelined as he continues rehabilitation from a torn meniscus in his left knee.

THE TRAINING OF INDEPENDENT AGAINST INSTITUTE

The defensive lineup is set to undergo significant changes. Patrick Ostachuk returns to the right-back position after starting there in most of the preseason. At center-back, Sergio Barreto pairs with Cristian Báez, who has spent time on the wing but will be tested in his natural central role. Ayrton Costa will operate on the left flank.

Midfield choices remain open as the staff considers which midfielder will partner Iván Marcone in a double pivot. The candidates are Kévin López, Agustín Mulet, or Sergio Ortíz. The wide players will feature Matthew Barcia and Nicolás Vallejo providing width and creativity.

Up front, the team is expected to deploy a dual striker arrangement with Martín Cauteruccio and Matías Giménez leading the line.

Possible starting XI: Rodrigo Rey; Patricio Ostachuk, Sergio Barreto, Cristian Báez, Ayrton Costa; Matthew Barcia, Iván Marcone, Kevin López, Sergio Ortíz or Agustín Mulet, Nicolás Vallejos; Martín Cauteruccio and Matías Giménez.
