Igor Akinfeev, the veteran goalkeeper and skipper of CSKA Moscow, has inked a fresh agreement with the army club, according to the team’s press service via Telegram- channel.
The contract extending Akinfeev’s tenure with the Moscow side runs for two years and signals continued leadership from a player who has long been synonymous with CSKA’s identity.
On April 8, Akinfeev celebrated his 38th birthday. He remains a steadfast figure for CSKA, a club he has represented since 2003. During his tenure with the Army team, he has helped secure six Russian championships, lifted the national Cup and the Super Cup on seven occasions, and earned a UEFA Cup triumph. To date, the goalkeeper has appeared in 766 matches for CSKA, recording 363 clean sheets as part of his storied career.
Akinfeev is widely regarded as one of European football’s most devoted players, having spent 21 seasons with CSKA Moscow and contributing to the club’s sustained success and stability over more than two decades.
In the recent Russian Premier League round 29, CSKA faced Paris NN and won decisively with a 6-2 scoreline. The result keeps CSKA positioned sixth in the league standings with 45 points. Looking ahead, the Army club will play its final regular-season match at home against Ural Yekaterinburg on May 25 at 16:30 Moscow time, closing out another chapter in their ongoing campaign.
Earlier remarks about the RPL title race were described in local media as a lottery, underscoring the unpredictability and competitive tension that characterize the league this season.
