From more than 900 submissions, today marked the IV round of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, and the six winners of this edition were announced amid an emotionally charged ceremony with more than 200 guests. The awards highlighted projects of high social impact that share a common goal: advancing gender equality through diverse sports activities.

Iberdrola’s president, Ignacio Galán, attended the afternoon ceremony, underscoring the practical support the competition provides to the winners. The event awarded a total purse of 300,000 euros, distributed as 50,000 euros for each category: Transcends Foundation, Transcends Competition, Transcends Innovation, Transcends Inclusion, Transcends Sociability, and Transcends Expansion.

During the ceremony, hosted by journalists Nico Abad and Margarita Álvarez, Galán expressed appreciation for the winners and reaffirmed Iberdrola’s commitment to initiatives that build a fairer, more supportive society grounded in the company’s core values of effort, development, and dedication. He emphasized that these values are central to strong sporting practices and that the awards honor remarkable women and girls pursuing admirable projects. The company’s dual focus on women’s sports and green transition was noted as a defining characteristic of Iberdrola.

The awards aim to implement six distinctive projects within their respective categories:

Transcend the Base: This initiative promotes grassroots sport among girls up to 16 years old. The CD Guretxoko Club from the Basque Country works to elevate the presence and heroism of women in a sport traditionally led by men.

Beat the Competition: This project supports the inclusion of women in sport by backing the Cañiza de Galicia Balonmán Club, enhancing the training infrastructure of the first team competing in the Women’s Silver Pride Division of handball.

Overcome participation Inclusion: Aimed at sports participation by women with special abilities, this project helps people with limited mobility or sensory impairments experience diving, guided by Marina Muñoz in the Canary Islands.

Overcoming Social: The initiative promotes women’s social integration through sport, enabling EMET Andalusia Foundation to run therapeutic sports workshops for vulnerable women residing in its centers.

Outperforms Diffusion: To raise visibility for women’s sports, the Siero Municipal Sports Board will share the stories of 78 Asturian women who will climb 78 peaks, capturing video to promote amateur sport participation.

And finally, Mastering Innovation: Designed for Club Patín Gijón Solimar in Asturias, this category seeks to improve training practices through science and technology, applying artificial intelligence and virtual reality to prevent injuries.

Jury members for the event included a distinguished panel of sports and media figures, with an emphasis on recognizing leadership in female athletic achievement. The gala culminated with a performance by Sole Giménez and featured many of the Iberdrola Ambassadors, among them Teresa Portela, Desirée Vila, and Loida Zabala. Other notable attendees included leaders from major sports organizations and committees, underscoring the event’s significance in promoting women in sport and sustainable progress.

Iberdrola has been a leading supporter of women’s sports in Spain since 2016. The company backs 32 national federations and has reached over 600,000 women through its initiatives, including more than a hundred competitions bearing Iberdrola’s name and 32 leagues. The round IV awards reinforce Iberdrola’s ongoing commitment to empowering female athletes and advancing inclusive, green-oriented sports programs across the country.
