The Yucatecan is two goals away from earning a place on the historic scoring list for America

At first, it seemed unlikely to bring in Henry Martin to the club, despite his reputation and the guidance of coach Michael Herrathen, who had worked with him during his time at Tijuana’s Xolos. Yet the decision proved pragmatic as the striker found his footing in the familiar environment of Coapa, silencing doubters with a strong 2022-2023 season and asserting himself among the top scorers. That momentum has him positioned as a serious contender for the Clausura 2023 scoring crown.

During his earlier stint with the border club, the striker tallied five league goals in three seasons (2014-2017). He earned his first call-up to the Mexican national team prior to the match against Trinidad and Tobago in 2015, where he started, stepping in for the absent Oribe Peralta, who partnered with him in the Coapa attack. After that appearance, his name resurfaced only years later when he returned to the cream-blue squad, marking roughly a decade since turning professional after being discovered in the lower leagues by Daniel Rosello at Llanero Football.

Across his entire career, he has registered 110 goals. He has distributed these strikes as 100 at the club level and 10 for the national team. Of the 100 club goals, 88 came in the First Division and 12 in the Promotion or second division competitions.

The 29-year-old Mérida native has accumulated 74 goals and 31 assists across Liga MX, domestic cups, the CONCACAF Champions League, the Champions Cup, and the GNP Cup while playing for the Eagles under the leadership of coach Fernando Ortiz. He has also appeared in more than 150 league matches for the club.

Henry Martin stands just two goals short of entering the all-time scoring list for América, currently tying Gonzalo Farfán with 76 career goals. Those numbers, hard to come by in today’s game, underscore his consistency and relevance to the team’s offensive plans.
