Former Lokomotiv Moscow footballer Sergei Gurenko expressed concern that the team’s defense lacks stability to compete for a top spot in the Russian championship. He shared his views with a legal betting platform.
“Lokomotiv has saved many matches and lost others. The team currently sits fourth in the standings. Will they gain ground after the break? It is tough with this defensive setup; stability at the back is essential. The focus often tilts toward the attack, where the side plays more dynamically. After 18 rounds with this defensive balance, the result is respectable”, said the Belarusian, outlining the core issue affecting the squad’s ceiling.
The red-green club secured a 2-0 victory over Ekaterinburg Ural at home during the 18th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) on December 8.
From the first half of the season, Mikhail Galaktionov’s side sat in fourth place, collecting 31 points. The Moscow club trailed the RPL leaders Krasnodar by seven points.
