Civil Guard officials in Madrid reported that four players from Real Madrid’s reserve teams were detained on allegations related to the distribution of sexually explicit videos involving a minor under 16 on WhatsApp. An official statement, corroborated by investigative sources and the club, confirmed that the individuals were released after giving statements, as the authorities launched an inquiry into the spread of the material rather than any additional criminal act.
The incidents are said to have originated in Mogán, Gran Canaria, around mid-June, with the mother of a 16-year-old girl reporting the matter to authorities a few days earlier, on September 6. The mother described recordings showing consensual sexual activity involving a minor that she claims are circulating without consent. She also indicated that she only recently learned of the existence of these images, despite the events occurring earlier in the year.
Subsequently, San Bartolomé de Tirajana Court No. 3 ordered judicial custody for a number of adults connected to Real Madrid’s lower-level squads as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged privacy violations and related sexual content. The court action followed the mother’s report and signaled the seriousness with which the case was being treated by the local judicial system.
In the follow-up operation, law enforcement acted on Thursday to detain four players associated with Madrid Castilla and Real Madrid C teams to gather their statements as part of the inquiry into the alleged crime of revealing secrets of a sexual nature. Reports indicate that mobile devices were seized during the investigation, and the individuals were later released after preliminary questioning. This sequence was reported by multiple outlets including El Confidencial, which cited unnamed sources, and was subsequently confirmed by other investigative channels.
A main defendant
Among the detained individuals, there are players from the Canary Islands who are part of Real Madrid’s farm system. According to the information released so far, one Real Madrid C player allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a minor and recorded the act. It is alleged that this material was then shared with three other individuals, designating the first player as the principal defendant in the case.
Sources indicate that the police report will be submitted to the competent San Bartolomé de Tirajana courts within the current day. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has stated that no judicial action has yet been initiated against any person involved in these incidents. Officials emphasized that, at present, no magistrate in the Canary Islands has conducted interviews with those under investigation, whether in person or upon request.
Real Madrid has stated that four players appeared before Civil Security authorities to address the alleged publication of a private video on WhatsApp. The club added that once detailed information about the facts is available, it will take appropriate action in line with its policies and standards. The situation remains under active investigation as authorities and the club continue to verify the facts and determine the appropriate next steps.
