Famous comedian Denis Dorokhov joked about the sporting merits of Russian figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva during the show “Meanwhile.” On VKontakte, among other remarks, he noted that the athlete is a holder of the Order of Friendship, a recognition she earned for her contributions to sport and culture.
“Listen, you must be 80 years old based on your outfit! The gentleman is still…” Dorokhov quipped, lightheartedly poking fun at Medvedeva in his signature style while keeping the mood playful and respectful.
At the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games, the Russian skater secured second place in the women’s singles and contributed to a strong team performance. The gold in the women’s event went to another Russian star, Alina Zagitova, who finished just one point ahead of Medvedeva. After the Olympics, Medvedeva transitioned from coach Eteri Tutberidze to Canadian specialist Brian Orser, before returning to the Khrustalny skating group roughly two years later to continue her training under familiar guidance.
In addition to her Olympic podium finishes, Medvedeva has earned multiple global honors, including gold medals at both the World Championships and the European Championships. Her competitive career includes a period of intense international attention and a series of high-profile performances on the ice. The athlete last competed in December 2019, and in April 2023 she announced her retirement from competitive figure skating. Alongside her athletic work, she expanded her public presence by performing in the ice show “Ice Age” and launching a personal project on YouTube, a channel titled “No Comments,” where she shares insights and behind-the-scenes moments from her life and career.
Previously, Medvedeva has spoken about her earnings and financial approach, offering fans a candid look at the realities of life as a top-level athlete and performer. Her public discussions reflect a balanced perspective on sponsorship, competitions, and content creation, illustrating how elite athletes diversify their careers beyond competition day—to mentor, perform, and engage with audiences around the world.
