Elche already knows the path for the season. It’s a marathon in principle 42 days, excluding the play-off, the pitches for which are prepared before the campaign. Summer work began last Monday, and this marks the start of a crucial phase in the franciverde training plan.

Elche will train in Algorfa through Friday, marking the initial stage. A friendly against Rotherham United, the English club competing in the Championship, is scheduled for the early hours of the morning and will cap six days of training before the team returns to the palm-lined city.

Yet this won’t be a final goodbye to the Algorfa surroundings. The team will return between July 24 and 29 to complete another stage. Neither Beccacece nor the leaders want a repeat of last year’s misstep, when insufficient preparation left Elche with a poor start to the season and Francisco lost his job. A setback the Franjiverdes cannot afford again.

market situation

The bus transporting the Elche squad to the training facilities will make only two stops: Aleix Febas and Alex Martin. Introduced last week, the midfielder and the defender were the first to be added to the roster, with more additions expected in the coming days.

In this sense, Elche is close to finalizing a deal with Valencia for Fran Perez, a move that paused as the Valencia club showed interest in keeping its younger players on the pitch longer. The negotiation has been quiet on the side of the Bragarnik group, and at Martínez Valero they trust the player’s development while understanding minutes earned on the field count more than contract language.

Despite the modest number of signings, tension has not spread within Elche. This is typical in June, a window when many clubs are still active, contracts expire, and budgets and salary caps are still being finalized. Moving hands in the market is not easy at this moment.

Elche and the other two relegated clubs from the First Division have been more cautious than in previous years, not counting loan returns. Espanyol has not acted yet, Valladolid has made a move, and other clubs like Alcorcón, Cartagena, Eibar, Eldense and Sporting have signed less overall.

Beccace’s blog

Beccacece currently works with 18 players: 14 from last season, a returning duo after loans (Mourad and Salinas), and two new signings. This setup helps maintain stability amid the ongoing negotiations. The core of the 2022/23 block remains reliable despite recent results.

In terms of needs, the team aims to strengthen the midfield where goals and creativity are vital. Notably, Omar Mascarell and Gumbau, who started the last two seasons, are still off the payroll. Raúl Guti’s future is uncertain, with Zaragoza showing interest, so more arrivals could follow Febas’s arrival.

In other positions, Elche is not rushing to sign. The Bragarnik era has a familiar rhythm, and the sporting director appears reluctant to alter the approach as long as the club believes it can maximize benefits. Beccacece’s main focus remains delivering the best possible pre-season phase to reach the first matchday against Racing de Ferrol in top form and secure three points. On Monday, Elche heads to Algorfa, the first stop on the climb to Primera.
