The General Assembly Hall hosted a reception for Elche Women’s Football Club on Thursday, May 11, with city leaders in attendance including Mayor Carlos González and Vicente Alberola, the Sports Parliamentary Delegate. They congratulated the players on their promotion to the Second RFEF. According to the City Council, Joaquín Buitrago, president of Elche CF, and members of the Government Team also joined the event.
The councilor from Elche extended praise for the team’s sporting success this promotion represents. “You had an outstanding season that will be remembered in the city’s history. You are exceptional players, at a pivotal moment for the club. We are deeply proud of every player, coach, and everyone this important team stands for within our city and the French-green women’s team”, he stated.

In a period when women’s sports command increasing attention nationwide, the mayor stressed the value of this team. “In football we see packed stadiums and truly memorable events that would have been unimaginable a decade ago, marking a notable leap in equality in a field as demanding as sport”, González said. He highlighted how the club enhances women’s sports and especially football, making their importance visible and felt.
Undersecretary of Sports, Vicente Alberola, confirmed that it is crucial for top-tier teams to contribute to the city’s value and profile.

Meanwhile, Joaquín Bruitago, president of Elche CF, praised the dedication and perseverance shown by the women’s club after last year’s relegation. He noted that the club has earned a special place within the organization. He also commended the technical committee for delivering a unifying message and a clear pathway forward.
The captain of the Frangiverde women’s team expressed gratitude for the municipality’s support and looked forward to meeting again in the gym to celebrate future sporting successes.
