Memory

Many teammates wore the jerseys they proudly wore during competition as a mark of respect. The silence was heavy, and tears flowed as participants confronted the heartbreaking moment. Fernando Ayala was widely respected not only within the handball club but also among the Elche CF community, where he had been a long-time member. He was a member of the local school community and a student at the Nit de L’Albà institute. A dedicated airman by training, he was in his fourth year at the San Javier General Air Academy. His fitness appeared solid in the minutes before the event, and his test results had been favorable. Yet, at the conclusion of the race, he suddenly collapsed and could not be revived on site.
