Elche CF’s Midweek Training and Stadium Replanting Update

Calmness returned to practice this Wednesday as Elche CF regrouped after a demanding stretch. Fans gathered at Díez Iborra to cheer on the players and urge a strong response after collecting just one point from the first five league fixtures of the campaign.

Inside the Juan Ángel Romero Sports City facilities, Franciverdes players and the coaching staff took to the Díez Iborra field. As days pass, the squad finds fresh motivation following a hard setback last Sunday against Athletic Bilbao, which ended in a 1-4 defeat but sparked renewed determination and a sense of momentum after a difficult period.

Lighthearted moments returned as teammates shared smiles and photos. Helibelton Palacios, one of the roster’s most upbeat figures, did not hesitate to photograph his teammates while Pere Milla, Diego González, and Roger waited at Díez Iborra’s door ahead of the session.

Francisco was able to field almost the entire squad, with captain Gonzalo Verdú back in normal training after the groin surgery he underwent on 3 August. Verdú is expected to be available for selection in the upcoming league match on Saturday at 16:15, when Elche visits Camp Nou to face FC Barcelona.

The only notable absence from practice this Tuesday was Omar Mascarell. The Canary Islands midfielder has been dealing with minor injuries for the past two weeks and spent the session in the gym working with the medical staff. He is not anticipated to miss travel to Barcelona, and should be available for selection if his recovery continues smoothly.

Francisco is focused on lifting the mood of the squad and convincing the players that a surprise result at Camp Nou is within reach, provided they defend well and exploit the moments that arise in a big league venue.

Replanting at Martínez Valero

All training this week is taking place at the Díez Iborra complex, taking into account the upcoming break and Elche not playing at home again until the weekend of October 8-9. Work is underway to reseed the pitch at Martínez Valero, replacing the summer Bermuda grass with ray grass to ensure a stronger surface for the upcoming matches. The process began last Monday, as the club aims for a durable home grass that holds through the autumn schedule. Although there was initial hope that summer seed might suffice through November, LaLiga’s oversight has ensured continued maintenance to keep the surface in optimal condition for the league and the team’s needs.
