Sports commentator Konstantin Genich believes that the best path for CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev to extend his career lies in a return to his homeland, specifically to Vladikavkaz.
He notes that for Dzagoev, a move back to Alania Vladikavkaz would be a meaningful homecoming. The Ossetian community, many of whom are Ossetian students, has long hoped to see him back in the region. A return to his roots could serve as a solid restart for a career that has faced significant physical and emotional hurdles lately.
Genich adds that letting Dzagoev depart from CSKA is not a simple call for any player, yet at the moment the midfielder does not appear to be contributing as much as the club would want.
Earlier reports indicated that a switch from the capital club could be on the cards during the summer transfer window.
Dzagoev, now 31, signed with CSKA in 2008. Over the years he helped the club win three Russian championships and lift the Russian Cup four times. This season he has appeared in 21 matches, with two goals and three assists to his name.
Previously, Genich discussed on Match TV the possibility of Alexei Berezutsky stepping down from his role as head coach of CSKA, signaling a period of change around the club.
