Dorothea Wierer Reflects on Kontiolahti World Cup, Weather, and World Sport Sanctions

Italian biathlete Dorothea Wierer spoke about the painful moment she faced during the World Cup stage in Kontiolahti.

“The first day in Finland the temperature dropped to minus ten degrees. That was shocking and perhaps a reason I felt unwell afterward.

Everything was progressing, yet missed targets in the final prone stage played a crucial role in the overall result.

I joked about considering vodka as a remedy. Sunday night, after all the races were done, seemed like a sensible time to unwind. It was meant in humor, not as medical advice.

Wierer finished the 15K individual race yesterday in 38th place.

In February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) advised international sports federations to exclude Russian and Belarusian athletes from all major events.

Following that guidance, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced that Russian and Belarusian biathletes could participate in World Cup and IBU stages only as neutral athletes. As a result, many Russians chose to skip these competitions.

Later in September, the IBU confirmed the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions until further notice.

Formerly Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht stated that the Russian athletes were removed from world sports without clear reasons.
