Dmitry Andreev, the sports director of the Russian Premier League club Orenburg, discussed the team’s response to the controversy surrounding their new midfielder Jordi Thompson. “Does Thompson carry a dark side? And who doesn’t have challenges in life? We’ve heard rumors about relationship issues. People act as if he kidnapped twenty people. The club isn’t concerned with Orenburg’s reputation being stained by whispers. Everyone has flaws, but that doesn’t define a player’s value”, Andreev remarked. He added that the club did not obsess over every detail but recognized that such stories could complicate recruitment if there were no clear boundaries. The decision to bring Thompson in came with an understanding of potential media attention, but the focus remained on his abilities on the pitch. “Thompson is a talented player with real potential. The transfer arrangement saw Colo-Colo, the Chilean club, loan him to Orenburg for a fee of €1.1 million with an option to buy.
