The Crusaders are set to face Albiverde in the summer tournament known as Copa Coperos Internacionales, an event that also features Ñublense as a participant.
In preparation for the 2023 season, Catholic University is scheduled to play an upcoming match against Oriental Oil on Thursday. The squad aims to build momentum for the National Championship and the Copa Sudamericana, with the summer tournament acting as a backdrop for evaluating new signings and team chemistry. Ñublense, the runners-up in Chilean football, will also be seen competing, with plans to participate in the Copa Libertadores.
The upcoming clash will allow the Crusaders, under coach Ariel Holan, to test their latest acquisitions: Eugenio Mena, Franco Di Santo, Byron Nieto, and Alexander Aravena. Guillermo Burdisso will miss the game due to a tear, keeping him out for at least three weeks. Albiverde, meanwhile, strengthened their ranks with Paraguayan striker Leonardo Villagra and added key pieces such as Cristian Álvarez, Luis Alberto Gutiérrez, and Erwin Junior Sanchez.
The Crusaders arrive in the fixture following two friendly wins over Magallanes at the Raimundo Tupper sports complex, securing 3-0 and 4-1 results. In the first match, both teams played 35-minute halves, with César Pinares, Fernando Zampedri, and Gonzalo Tapia contributing to the victory. The second encounter saw Milan Tudor scoring twice, along with Luis Felipe Hernández and Tapia again finding the back of the net.
Historically, the matchup carries two notable precedents from the round of 16 of the 1997 continental competition, both in favor of the Crusaders. A 4-0 win at San Carlos de Apoquindo featured Alberto Acosta’s four-goal haul, while a 1-5 victory occurred in Santa Cruz, highlighted by a David Bisconti hat-trick and goals from Ricardo Lunari and Caté.
Following this duel, the students will face Talleres and Rosario Central in Santa Laura before their domestic league opener against Everton during the penultimate weekend of the current month.
The Crusaders’ match against the Bolivian team will be broadcast through DSport+ (channel 613 in SD and 1613 in HD) and streamed via the DGO online platform. DIRECTV subscribers can sign in with their MiDIRECTV credentials, avoiding the need to create a new account. Tickets for the match are already available through the TicketPlus system.
