In 2022, T defeated Strip twice. At the outset of the 2023 campaign, a scheduled match could not be played because the stadium was not available.

The Catholic University preseason included a pivotal meeting and workshops in Córdoba that would help Ariel Holan manage a season more challenging than usual in the Chilean league. Yet the match was canceled due to stadium issues.

After beating Red Sub 20, Magallanes, and Oriente Petrolero for the first time on television, UC established some guiding ideas: the aim to combine strikers with wingers and the attacking midfielder to reinforce an area where last season the finisher Zampedri often faced difficulties.

The match could not take place at Santa Laura because Independencia’s court was not ready, which led to suspending a game that was moved to Coquimbo but did not receive the required permits. T won 1-0 at home, a result that was repeated at San Carlos in 2022. The Argentines advanced to the Libertadores knockout rounds, while the Chileans, the four-time defending champions, did not. There would be no hint of vengeance in this encounter.

WORKSHOP TRAINING

Javier Gandolfi’s T prepared in friendly, informal matches against Godoy Cruz, showcasing a part of the club’s image for 2023. He directed a squad that included a mix of players; among the 22 names, at least 15 appear likely to start.
