The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has logged four appeals from skaters following the redistribution of medals in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games team event, according to official statements from press agencies.
CAS indicated that three petitions came from Russian representatives and another from the Canadian team.
In January 2024, CAS ruled that Kamila Valieva, then part of the Russian national team at the event, violated anti-doping rules. She received a four-year suspension that started in December 2021, and she was stripped of all awards earned during that period.
Following that decision, the International Skating Union (ISU) reclassified the team event medals from Beijing 2022, placing Russia in third place without stripping the nation of its Olympic status. The United States earned gold, while Japan took silver.
Earlier reports noted that the Plushenko Academy is housed within the ice arena, where a roof collapse incident was mentioned in connection with the facility.
These developments reflect ongoing efforts to address competitive fairness in Olympic figure skating and the continued impact of doping-related rulings on team standings. The CAS process offers a formal avenue for athletes and teams to petition whether decisions align with international rules, while ISU adjustments aim to preserve the integrity of the sport and its medal records for the Beijing Games.
