Artificial turf renovation work on the Calp football field has concluded after months of delays. Last Saturday marked the inauguration of the upgraded facilities, now hosting the presentation of Calpe’s first team, with a modern infrastructure operated by the City Council.

Calp expands surveillance and fences sports facilities to curb abuse and litter

In order to protect the investments and ensure safe use of the sports areas, the municipality is stepping up monitoring and installing perimeter fencing around the facilities. The aim is to deter misuse and the improper disposal of bottles and other waste near the playing fields. The enhanced security measures are part of a broader effort to maintain a family-friendly and orderly environment for players and spectators alike.

The project featured a comprehensive overhaul of the playing surface, surrounding paths, and irrigation networks. A key decision was to replace the existing turf, after it was determined that the old grass could not be reused in the surrounding area. The contract adjustments extended the project timeline, but ensured that the new turf would cover about 7,000 square meters, along with upgraded seating areas and better drainage around the pitch.

In addition, the pavements around the field, the irrigation system, as well as the ramps and protective nets, were renewed. The total project cost reached 468,264.83 euros, with 248,654.44 euros subsidized through the Diputación de Alicante. The improvements aim to boost user experience, extend field life, and support local sports programs by providing a safer, more reliable environment for training and competition.

The municipality remains committed to refreshing and expanding its aquatic and athletic offerings. City leaders emphasize ongoing investments in municipal sports facilities and the development of new spaces for community activity, including Esplai Park and Pump Truck. The Domingo Crespo Pavilion is slated to receive a flooring refurbishment in the near term, representing another piece of a broader plan to renew public sport infrastructure in the coming months.
