Despite changes in how the path to the bottom is paved, the relegation downhills remain a fixture at the top levels of national football.
The prior season stood out for its drama. Clubs slipped from the First Division to the First National after a stretch of three years. The last time such a drop occurred was in 2019, and this cycle it was the board and Aldosivi facing the consequence. Rules around the league have shifted once again since then.
In a move backed by the Professional League, the number of teams condemned to relegation has been trimmed. Rather than four teams going down as previously indicated, the league now plans for three. The relegation pattern has also shifted. Instead of sending the bottom four on the average table, only two will descend at the season’s end, and the single worst team on the overall table will also drop out of the top flight.
