Coach Sebastian Beccacece of Elche CF spoke at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Copa del Rey clash. The round of 32 game will see the club head to action on Saturday, January 6, at 18:00, at the Martinez Valero stadium. The squad is focused on improving ahead of the weekend, and Beccacece hinted at squad changes that could come with the winter market, including roles added to the attack and defense.

Even with two established goalkeepers, Edgar Badia and Miguel San Román, Beccacece surprised listeners with his guidance about the coming window.
When asked about the plans of Christian Bragarnik, the owner of the sports commission that runs the Franjiverde, Beccacece commented that the squad works hard and is a good match to strengthen the team. He added that while daily effort remains high, some desired moves may not materialize immediately.
Regarding the types of additions sought, he explained: the team needs forwards, particularly with Óscar Plano injured, a winger, and a goalkeeper to support the squad. He noted that players could shift to different positions depending on departures, and that this is a real possibility in the winter market.

The Argentine coach reaffirmed expectations of reinforcements, indicating four or five arrivals could occur. If a player leaves, another would need to be brought in. Beccacece emphasized alignment with the club and ownership on transfer strategy, while acknowledging the market’s complexity due to negotiations with other clubs. He stressed his commitment to training and improving the team’s style of play, trusting the club despite the inherent challenges of negotiations. The players currently in the squad are the ones he intends to work with first, with any additions contingent on those coming and going in the near term.
Beyond forwards, there is a need for a right winger and a goalkeeper, plus defensive strengthening with a new center-back. The club also aims to bolster the defense, potentially allowing some current members to depart, including players such as Diego González or Álex Martín, and a midfielder may also depart.
“At the moment, unless surprises occur, the Elche club does not expect any transfers until next week.”
