The Argentina national under-23 squad is gearing up for Olympic qualifying, with coach Mascherano exploring the strongest possible selections for the challenge ahead.
Argentina’s primary objective for 2024 centers on the under-23 side, as they prepare for the Pre-Olympic tournament scheduled to run from January 20 to February 11 in Venezuela. The competition will determine two berths for Paris, offering the Albiceleste a chance to claim their third Olympic gold after triumphs in 2004 and 2008.
THIS WAS THE LAST CALL BEFORE THE JAPAN TOUR
Mascherano’s team is drawn into Zone B, alongside Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Peru. Following the tournament format, a brief training camp was organized from December 5 to December 7 at the Lionel Messi facility in Ezeiza to fine-tune readiness for the upcoming fixtures.
PLAYERS CALLED UP FOR TRAINING
In a move announced this Sunday, the Argentine Football Association confirmed a list of 24 players who will assemble in Ezeiza for a three-day session. Ongoing commitments in the Professional League Cup mean several players from playoff-bound clubs were not named, including those from River Plate and Racing Club, and players currently abroad could still be added if their clubs grant releases.
The squad also includes five players from Boca Juniors: Leandro Brey, Nicolás Valentini, Equi Fernández, Cristian Medina, and Valentín Barco. From Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense come Lucas Esquivel and Bruno Zapelli, while the MLS contributes four talents: Ramiro Enrique (Orlando City SC), Rocco Rios Novo (Phoenix Rising), Thiago Almada (Atlanta United), and Facundo Farias (Inter Miami CF).
