Ander Herrera returns to Athletic Bilbao on loan from PSG

Athletic Club has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to take Ander Herrera on a loan deal through the end of the season. This move brings the midfielder back to the Basque club, where he previously spent three seasons from 2011 to 2014.

The club confirms that the loan from PSG includes Athletic Club’s option to acquire all federative and economic rights for Herrera for the 2023-2024 campaign.

The 33-year-old Herrera will be returning to professional life with Athletic Club, continuing his career in Spanish football. Herrera joined Athletic Bilbao in February 2011 and became part of the first-team squad in the summer of that year under the guidance of coach Marcelo Bielsa.

During his time with Bilbao, Herrera appeared in 128 official matches and scored 11 goals across three seasons. He spent two seasons under Bielsa and the final season with Ernesto Valverde, who later returned to lead the team.

Herrera left Bilbao in June 2014 after a buyout clause of 35 million euros facilitated his move to Manchester United. He spent five seasons at Old Trafford before signing with Paris Saint-Germain, where he has played in the subsequent years, with the contract concluding in 2019.
